Govardhana Farms / ISKCON Govinda’s Herd
Govardhana Farms was established at the beginning of 2015. Dedicated to a natural and cruelty-free way of farming, at Govardhana farms we aim to grow our vegetables using the least amount of machinery and only using natural pesticides and fertilizers that do not harm any living entities. Govardhana Farms has also established a charity organization, ISKCON Govinda’s Herd, dedicated to the protection of cows and bulls. Since October of 2015 we have acquired 4 cows and 2 male calves, all rescued from slaughter and to be cared for with love until the end of their natural lives.
In this way both projects, Govardhana Farms and ISKCON Govinda’s Herd complete each other in creating the rural lifestyle that Srila Prabhupada so much desires, where the cow is protected and the food is produced from our own land.
Currently Need
Our project is lead and managed by only one family. We have limited resources and are in need of financial support in order to maintain the project and grow.
Future Plans
We would like to be able to continue providing fresh, naturally grown vegetables for all the devotees in the GTA and surrounding areas for years to come. Along with vegetable production we are working on creating more products that will come from the land and of the cow and bull. We plan on growing some grains in the upcoming years. We also plan on making ahimsa cow products such as: cow dung incense and milk soap bars. We will also be training the bulls in order to eventually cut out the use of the tractor. We would like to see other devotee families get inspired by our project and move to live close to our farm so that we may be able to create a Hare Krishna rural community or village. In the future we would also like to be able to accommodate volunteers from around the world to come and stay on the farm for a few days or weeks and help with the care for the cows and the growing of produce.
