Mother cow gives us milk even after our own mother stops. She supplies all the ingredients required for worship. She takes care of our basic necessity of the body- food and also of the soul. Can’t we give her a safe and dignified life in return? Further, it is so easy- give her just little love and grass.

His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami, the Minister for ISKCON Daiva Varnasrama Ministry (IDVM)–India embarked upon the idea of re-instating the glorious position of gomata in our lives. He envisions to include everybody regardless of their religious faith, age, caste, creed, nationalities under one umbrella, as compassion is a universal emotion just like cow’s position of being the Universal Mother.

On 1st January 2015, which marked not just the beginning of new year but also the auspiciousness of Vaikuntha Ekadasi, IDVM Minister, His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami kicked off his 12-year (2015-2027) global campaign invoking “global auspiciousness” centered on Surabhi Cow, our Universal Mother, aptly named OM (our mother) Sri

Surabhi campaign at Hyderabad, India. His initiative coincides with the celebration of unprecedented series of ISKCON Golden Jubilee events commemorating the glorious historical achievements of ISKCON’s Founder-Acarya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who systematically and successfully introduced the Vedic culture around the world, thus fulfilling the desires of the previous Acaryas as predicted by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The initiative focuses on the very foundational pillars of Vedic lifestyle – cow. Brahmanical culture which paves the way for spiritual progress derives its nourishment from gomata. Both complementing each other.

The 12-year marathon invoking global auspiciousness to adopt Surabhi
Cow as our Universal Mother aims at giving total protection to all life forms, beginning with our Mother Cow who is the emblem of peace, prosperity and all auspiciousness.

Just arriving from Indonesia and observing Nirjala fasting, His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami maharaj set off his holy campaign with the traditional go-puja of Mother Surabhi and invoking her blessings. It was performed at New Govardhan, Secunderabad, where the cow Surabhi forms an integral a part of the family.

Immediately after the puja, he set off to Lions Bhavan venue (Secunderabad) where hundreds of people were waiting for him. He officially launched the campaign by inaugurating its logo, stickers, website, T-shirts and logo booklet. The mood was set by a 10 years old young boy, Bhakta Arjun Survi singing a song in the praise of gomata.

Many other dignitaries like Sri Mahesh Aggarwal (President- A.P Gaushala Federation), Sri Surendra Leoniya (President-Jain Samaj), Sri Jasaraj (Ex-advocate of Supreme Court of India), and Acharya Vrajendra ji were also present to lend their local support to the cause. All the speakers gave different dimensions of addressing the issue. While Sri Jasaraji gave the legal perspective, Sri Surendra ji offered the increased role of goshalas, Acharya Vrajendra ji cited the Vedas (reservoir of all knowledge) that glorify gomata, Sri Maheshji gave an insight into the medicinal value of panchgavya products and suggested how we can make gift-packs of these products and lend our contribution in leading us towards self-sufficient cow-dung economy.

His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami brought out the importance of cow’s role in our lives –at both the material and spiritual planes. He said the biggest sins that would bring the world in suicidal mode are cow-killing and abortion. Highlighting its serious repercussions, in a very simple language he gave a very profound message that nobody can render their (sva-dharma) both at material and spiritual levels without the auspicious presence of mother cow. Without them there can be no temple, no yajnas, no initiation ceremony and no prosperity. Their protection means the protection of Vedic or brahminical culture which rests on compassion with knowledge and brings in material prosperity. He led the Prayer to Mother Cow (composed by him) followed by everybody and solemn oath to protect her in different ways. He screened a short documentary about the importance of mother cow and the OM Sri Surabhi Campaign. It showed how cows have formed an integral part of our lives and how dear they are to the Supreme Lord. How can we become dear to the Lord if we keep silent to the atrocities perpetrated on her? How do we prepare ourselves to be a part of Goloka Vrindavan, our ultimate destination and is full of Surabhi cows? How do we serve them if we are not compassionate to Mother Cow? Cows are dharma personified, how do we serve dharma if we do not understand the language of dharma, protect her and serve her? There are universal laws of nature, founded on universal emotions of compassion and gratitude towards all living entities, especially mother cow. Its violation is suicidal.

Our present ‘development’ has removed our mother and father from our lives- the biological parents lie in Old age homes, while shastric parents – Mother cow & Father Bull, are sent to slaughter houses. This is suicidal- spiritually as well as materially. This heinous sin will only bring us closer to complete global destruction. If we do not take any corrective action to save our Mother Cow now, we will reach a point of no-repair. The Alarm bell is ringing. Rise, Awake and be a part to save Our Universal Mother, cow.

We invite everybody with a heart full of love towards other life-form to become a part of this noble effort to help bring universal auspiciousness by bringing Mother Cow in the center of our lives again. By serving our Mother Surabhi we will bring happiness to the Lord and when the Lord is pleased the whole world becomes happy.
