The auspicious naming of two recently born calves and the opening of the Sahyadri Varnasrama College [SVC] (in its 6th consecutive year) kept all the residents of SSKBK busy from morning till evening on the first day of year 2014.

On the last Purnima, December 17, 2013, mother Subhadra (our first cow who was donated 7 years ago) gave birth to her sixth calf and on December 30th, mother Surabhi delivered her second calf.

To commemorate the beginning of the new calendar year and to bring auspiciousness to the first day of the opening of the Sahyadri Varnasrama College, the resident sannyasi at SSKBK, HH RP Bhakti Raghava Swami, along with the resident devotees, guests and students coming to attend the Varnasrama College performed the Go-Puja for both mother Subhadra and for mother Surabhi. Maharaja named mother Subhadra’s calf as “Kanai” and mother Surabhi’s calf as “Dauji”.

Right after the go-puja ceremony, the students gathered under the Jackfruit tree near the temple along with some of the SSKBK resident devotees to inaugurate the 6th year of the Sahyadri Varnasrama College (SVC). Four students have registered today with two more arriving on the week-end and a few others planning to attend some portion of the courses.

Courses at SVC cover all aspects of the four varnas, both theory and practice, such as Organic Farming, Cow Protection, Traditional Technologies, Dharma Sastras, Astanga Yoga, Vedic Governance, Kalari Martial Arts, Deity Worship, etc.

A total of 10 faculty members, both resident and visiting, will share the various courses to be offered during the month of January. Module II and Module III will be given respectively from May 15 to June 15 and from October 15 to November 15, 2014.
